Summer long drinks with port wine, gin and other herbal elixirs
It's summer and we enjoy the many long, balmy evenings on which we celebrate the otherwise un-Teutonian aperitif culture and invite the southern joie de vivre to us. We like to have a sparkling drop in our glass with Mediterranean finger food.
Of course, rosé, aperol spritz and a white wine spritzer always work. But it can also be a little more high-percentage. For example with some creative variations of the Gin Tonic: Do you already know the Portonic? This is a twist on the classic, replacing the gin with white port. Tastes excitingly different and is an absolute hit in Portugal.
Or how about a gin-seng tonic? There comes as a spirit the Dr. Jaglas Gin-Seng in a glass, i.e. gin with the power of the ginseng root.
For both drinks you basically only need 2 ingredients and some decoration, depending on your taste. Lemon, lime and cucumber go well with classics, but you can also experiment with frozen blueberries and raspberries.
The good mood will come naturally!
Ingredients portonic:
- 1 lime
- 3 cl white port wine
- 9cl tonic water
Ingredients Gin Seng Tonic:
- 1 lime
- 3cl dr Jaglas Gin Seng
- 9cl tonic water
And that was just the beginning! Also with Dr. Jaglas Artichoke Elixir and the Dr. Jaglas Golfer's ginseng elixir can be used to create interesting long drinks and cocktails. Here are a few ideas:
Here are our favorites in a slightly modified version:
Artichoke Royal à la Maître Philippe & Filles
- 15 ml Artichoke Elixir
- 10 ml crème de cassis
- Top-Up: Champagne, for example the Cuvée Renaissance from Vadin-Plateau or Cuvée Richardot from Moutard
dr Jaglas Stormy
- 40 ml Ginseng Elixir
- 20 ml dark rum
- 1/2 lime, squeezed
- Top up: ginger beer
And we also found a recipe for the white port wine: the CaipiPorto!
- 6 cl white port wine
- 4 wedges of lime
- 2 cl sugar syrup or 2 tablespoons (brown) sugar
- Crashed ice
Here's to a long, hot summer! Chin Chin!
